Advanced - Outdoor Lead Sport Preparation

Our outdoor lead preparation training will help you become outdoor aware for a single pitch sport lead climb only. The best place to learn about outdoor lead climbing is outdoors, but this course will give you some of the basic skills required to climb safety outdoors without making some of the common mistakes.


OVERVIEW
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
This is an indoors delivered course that will give you the additional skills to be able to lead climb outdoors on a single-pitch sport grade. This course does not cover multi-pitch climbing, abseiling, building anchors, rescues or Trad (Traditional climbing).

▪️ Awareness / Care for the environment (walking into a climbing crag involves more than just putting one foot in front of the other)
▪️ How to read and understand a Guide Book
▪️ Identify common hazards eg loose/falling rock
▪️ Risk management and emergency protocols
▪️ Discuss strategies for avoiding accidents
▪️ Familiarise with essential gear
▪️ Clipping quick-draws from harness onto bolts
▪️ The use of personal anchor system (PAS)
▪️ Setting up an anchor using quick-draws
▪️ Clearing a sport climbing anchor
▪️ Lower off from a sport climb
▪️ Removing quick-draws
▪️ Small groups, max group size 2 people
✘ Multi-pitch climbing, abseiling
✘ Building anchors
✘ Rescues
✘ Trad (Traditional climbing)

Prerequisites (minimum)
▪️ 6a indoor lead climber on any wall type
▪️ Been indoor lead climbing for 6-12 months

▪️ Entrance to the venue
▪️ Equipment : Lead rope, Quick-draws, and PAS (Personal Anchor System) are supplied for the duration of the course. The assumption is that you already have your own Climbing Shoes and Harness, but these can be supplied at a small additional cost.
